Our Baby Bath Routine: The Products That Turned Bath Time From Screaming To Splashing
For the first 8 weeks, every bath ended in tears — mine and the baby's. Here's what finally worked.

The first bath we gave our daughter at home was a disaster. The water was too cold. Then too hot. She screamed like we were torturing her. My husband was soaked. I was crying. The dog was hiding in the other room. We seriously considered whether babies actually needed baths. (They do, eventually.)
By week 8, bath time became her favorite part of the day. Here's what changed — and specifically, which products made the difference.
The Right Bath Support: Angelcare Baby Bath
We started with a plastic infant tub from our registry and our newborn just slid around in it, terrified. A friend recommended the Angelcare Baby Bath Support ($35) and it was an instant fix. The mesh sling cradles the baby securely, they stay warm because they're not submerged in cooling water, and the whole thing is lightweight and dries fast. It fits inside your regular bathtub or a kitchen sink. We used it from week 2 until about 7 months when she could sit unassisted.
Temperature Matters More Than You'd Think
A $8 bath thermometer solved our "too hot/too cold" problem immediately. The sweet spot for newborns is 98-100°F — exactly body temperature. Anything over 100°F is too hot. Anything under 96°F and they'll get cold fast. We also use a Munchkin rinse cup ($5) with a soft silicone edge that contours to the forehead, keeping water and soap out of her eyes. Simple but brilliant.
Products That Are Worth It
The Mustela baby wash ($12) is the only one that didn't dry out her eczema-prone skin. The hooded towel ($18) actually keeps her head warm after the bath. And Aveeno baby lotion ($9) applied within 3 minutes of getting out of the tub locks in moisture. This routine — Angelcare, thermometer, Mustela, towel, lotion — turned bath time from a dreaded chore into something we all look forward to.
